Currently one PhD research assistantship is available for student researcher who would like to start Fall 2013 (or later until filled) in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at West Virginia University. This assistantship will cover the full cost of tuition and provide the full year (12 month) stipend and benefits. The prospective student will work with Dr. Fei Dai. He/she is expected to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering with the special area in Construction Engineering and Management. The research topic will include, but not limited to, surveying-computing-construction integration and automation, applied photogrammetry for 3D modeling, quantity surveying, and augmented reality, construction safety and health, acoustics and visual sensing integration, discrete-event simulation and evolutionary optimization in construction operations, sensing, computing, data mining for building and civil infrastructure systems, image processing, computer vision, non-destructive evaluation of civil infrastructure, and mobile computing for construction. The advisor will work with the student to identify the most suitable topic for the student based on his/her academic interests and background.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, or related fields, and other general admission requirements provided at http://grad.wvu.edu and http://www.cee.statler.wvu.edu/grad/admission.php.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and experiences related to two or more of the following areas: 1) construction engineering, management, safety, and health, 2) programming skill in C/C++, Objective-C, C#, Maple, or/and Matlab, 3) photogrammetry, non-contact surveying, and geoinformatics, 4) statistics, inference, and mathematical modeling, 5) image processing, 6) computer vision, 7) discrete-event simulation, 8) robotics, 9) database and information management, and 10) computer-aided design and computer graphics. Applicants with a master degree will be preferred.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTION: Prospective students with a strong desire to pursue a doctoral degree are encouraged to apply.
