 Qiu教授简介:

Dr. Dr. Qiu received his B.S. degree in hydraulic engineering from Tsinghua University, P.R.China, in 2000 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering from University of California – Los Angeles in 2002 and 2005, respectively.  Prior to joining the faculty at The Pennsylvania State University in 2010, he was a project engineer in southern California and a faculty member at Clarkson University.  Dr. Qiu currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and International Journal of Geomechanics, ASCE, secretary and Board member for the United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research, and secretary for Earthquake Engineering and Soil Dynamics Committee, Geo-Institute, ASCE.  Dr. Qiu is a recipient of Excellent Paper Award from International Journal of Geomechanics, ASCE, in 2008 and the Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER) from the U.S. National Science Foundation in 2015.

报告内容简介:

Various geohazards such as landslides, debris flow, and mud flow involve large deformations of geomaterials. To anticipate and prepare for these hazards, it is important to predict the extent of impacted area due to these hazards. In this seminar, I will discuss the application of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method to the simulation of large deformations of geomaterials. The development of our SPH model will first be introduced, followed by model validation through two problems including axisymmetric collapse of granular columns and earthquake-induced slope deformations.
